Connect Bkmark to Slack: Save and Search Bookmarks

Bkmark’s Slack integration brings your bookmark library directly into your workspace. Once connected, you can save links, run searches, and browse recent bookmarks entirely from Slack — no tab-switching required. Pro and Team plan members can also sync URLs shared in channels automatically and get AI-powered summaries on demand.

Connect Bkmark to Slack

Open Integrations settings

In the Bkmark dashboard, click your avatar in the top-right corner, then go to Settings → Integrations → Slack.

Start the OAuth install

Click Connect Slack. You’ll be redirected to Slack’s OAuth authorization page.

Choose your workspace

Select the Slack workspace you want to connect, review the requested permissions, then click Allow.

Confirm the connection

Slack redirects you back to Bkmark. You’ll see a confirmation banner and the Slack status will show as Connected.

You need permission to install apps in your Slack workspace. If you’re not a workspace admin, ask your admin to approve the installation or grant you the necessary permissions.

The `/bm` Slash Command

Once the app is installed, type /bm in any Slack channel or DM to interact with your bookmarks. The command supports several sub-commands:

Save any URL with an optional custom title:

/bm <url> [title]

Examples:

/bm https://example.com
/bm https://example.com My Favourite Article

Bkmark saves the link immediately and replies with a confirmation. If you omit the title, Bkmark fetches the page title automatically.

Use the save sub-command to attach one or more tags at the same time:

/bm save <url> [#tag1 #tag2 …]

Examples:

/bm save https://example.com
/bm save https://example.com #reading #design
/bm save https://example.com #dev #tools #typescript

Tags are created automatically if they don’t already exist in your library.

Search your entire bookmark library without leaving Slack:

/bm search <query>

Examples:

/bm search react hooks
/bm search machine learning papers

Bkmark returns your top matching bookmarks as an interactive list. Click any result to open it in your browser.

View your most recently saved bookmarks:

/bm recent

Bkmark posts an ephemeral list of your latest saves, visible only to you.

List all your bookmark groups:

/bm groups

Use this to remind yourself of group names before saving or searching within a specific collection.

Display the full command reference at any time:

/bm help

All /bm responses are ephemeral by default — only you can see them. Your teammates won’t see a flood of bot replies in shared channels.

Save Links from a Message

You don’t need to copy a URL manually. Bkmark adds a Save as Bookmark shortcut to every Slack message, letting you save links straight from your feed.

Hover over any message that contains a link.
Click the ⋮ More actions (three-dot) menu on the message.
Select Save as Bookmark.

Bkmark extracts all URLs from that message and saves them to your library. A confirmation appears in a private notification, so the channel stays clean.

If a message contains multiple URLs, Bkmark saves each one as a separate bookmark. You can edit or delete any of them later from the Bkmark dashboard.

App Home Tab

Bkmark adds a dedicated Home tab inside the Bkmark app in Slack. Open it any time by clicking bkmark.it in your Apps list (left sidebar under Apps). The Home tab shows:

Your most recently saved bookmarks, with clickable links and tag badges.
Quick-action buttons to open the full Bkmark dashboard or start a search.

The Home tab refreshes automatically every time you open it, so it always reflects your latest saves.

Pro & Team Features

Channel sync and AI summaries require a Pro or Team plan. Free plan users can still use all slash commands, the message shortcut, and the App Home tab.

Channel Sync

Channel sync automatically saves any URL posted in a Slack channel as a Bkmark bookmark — no manual /bm command needed. To enable channel sync:

Go to Settings → Integrations → Slack in the Bkmark dashboard.
Under Channel Sync, click Add channel mapping.
Choose a Slack channel and an optional destination group in Bkmark, then save.

Every new URL shared in that channel is saved to your Bkmark library in the background.

Slack Bot AI

When the AI feature is enabled, you can ask the Bkmark bot to summarise any saved URL directly in Slack. Mention the bot or use the /bm command with a saved link, and Bkmark replies with an AI-generated summary of the page content.

Slack Bot AI is available on Pro and Team plans only.

Disconnect Slack

To remove the Bkmark app from your Slack workspace:

Go to Settings → Integrations → Slack in the Bkmark dashboard.
Click Disconnect.
Confirm the action in the dialog.

This revokes Bkmark’s access to your Slack workspace immediately. Your existing bookmarks are not affected. To fully remove the app from Slack’s side, go to Slack → Settings → Manage Apps and uninstall bkmark.it from there as well.
