## Permissions explained

When you install the extension, your browser asks you to approve the following permissions. Here is what each one does and why Bkmark needs it.

| Permission                         | What it does                                                                                                                                                                                                                   |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Active Tab** (`activeTab`) | Reads the URL and title of the page you are currently viewing so the popup can pre-fill the save form without requiring access to every tab you have open. |
| **Storage** (`storage`) | Saves your extension settings locally in your browser so your preferences follow you across devices. |
| **Context Menus** (`contextMenus`) | Adds the **Save to bkmark.it** and **Save highlight to bkmark.it** entries to the right-click menu, so you can save any page or link without opening the popup. |
| **Bookmarks** (`bookmarks`) | Allows the extension to read your browser's built-in bookmark folders so you can import them into Bkmark from the popup's **Import Bookmarks** panel. The extension never deletes or modifies your existing browser bookmarks. |

<Tip>
  Bkmark communicates only with `https://api.bkmark.it`. No browsing data is sent to any third-party service.
